he plantations of Tokaj Classic Winery Ltd. are predominatly in Mád (which is situated in the Tokaj-Hegyalja region); and for the Villa Makár wines in Szekszárd and Pécs. To access more information about the terrain and properties of our individual wines, please consult our price list.

The Tokaj-Hegyalja region is noted for its unique climate and its soil. The ground is of volcanic origin (zeolite) and through its porosity contains a high percentage of minerals. Thus it is ideal as a moisture-rich soil. Bordered by the Carpathian mountain range, its climate is protected. A moist, warm autumn, and its special micro climate encourages the prolific growth of noble rot (Botrytis Cinerea).
Beginning in mid-October and normally ending in November, the harvest can stretch in unusual years until January! Throughout the entire fermentation period, our 14 meter deep cellars maintain an even temperature between 11 and 12 degrees Celsius. The yield of high quality Tokaj Aszú, depending on the vintage, is 400-750 bottles of 0.5 liters per hectare.
Szekszárd and
Pécs
The classic wine production area of southern Hungary includes Szekszárd, Villány and Pécs.
The stepwise formation of the mountains rich in limestone harbor a southern Mediterranean type climate which results in red wines of fruitiness and high tannins requiring further ripening in oak casks. Our Chardonnay benefits exceptionally well from this climate and terrain.
